Course Description

In this course, you’ll learn a wide range of fundamental programming concepts, including creating variables, using control-flow statements, debugging, and Object-Oriented Programming. You will also learn how to recognise, write, and debug Java code.

This course is ideal for learners who wish to delve into the world of programming and learn one of the world's most versatile programming languages. This course also provides learners with a rich set of transferable skills, including analytical thinking and software development.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

This course is available to all adults over the age of 18 resident in the Republic of Ireland.

Does the course have prerequisites? 

In order to register for this course, you should already have a background in programming. This background does not necessarily need to be in Java and can include other programming languages, such as Python, C#, C++, Visual Basic, etc.

What is the exam like on this course?

The IT Specialist in Java (ITS – 304) is conducted online and lasts a total of 50 minutes.

Do I need specific hardware or software?

You will require access to a PC or laptop running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (the most recent version is Windows 11).

To compile and run a Java program, learners will need to download either JDK 17 and a text editor such as Notepad++ or, an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) such as Visual Studio Code.
