Course Description

This course is designed to help you become well-versed in the fundamentals of the software applications that are used commonly in both organisational and personal settings. The International Computer Driving License (ICDL) is the most widely recognised multi-purpose computer certification in the world, and by obtaining this certification you can prove that you have a solid grasp of computer use and the digital world.

Whether you're looking to upskill, or simply gain the confidence needed to thrive in the digital world, this course is for you.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of computers and the internet
  • Create and edit documents in Microsoft Word
  • Create and edit spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel
  • Create and edit presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint

Who can take this course?

This course is available to all adults over the age of 18 resident in the Republic of Ireland.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up for this course by visiting FETCH, Irelands Further Education and Training Hub. You will have to register for an account before you can begin the course.

The provider for this course is Cenit College, and your learning will be delivered through the eCollege online learning environment. When you complete your application you will receive an email with your access details, and when you log into the platform you will see details of how to contact your course tutor. Does the course have prerequisites? 

This course has no specific entry requirements, however it is suggested that you have some basic IT literacy before embarking on this course. You will be required to complete and pass a basic IT Literacy entry quiz at the start of the course.

Does this course have tutor support?

Yes, this course is supported by an online tutor who you will have access to during the course.

What is the exam like on this course?

Exams are taken online and are 45 minutes in duration. There are 32-39 questions with a pass mark of 75%.

Do I need specific hardware or software?

You will require access to a PC or laptop running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (the most recent version is Windows 11).

No specific software is required for this course. You will be provided with an Office 365 license for access to the Microsoft suite of office software if you do not have your own access to these.
