Course Description

Python is relatively easy to learn, highly applicable to a variety of situations, and used by many of the world's leading tech companies, such as Google, Spotify, and Netflix.

This fully online course builds on your knowledge of the core fundamentals of Python, covering more advanced concepts. This course is suitable for learners who already have a foundational knowledge of Python and wish to further their knowledge of this versatile programming language.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand modules, packages, and PIP (Preferred Installer Program) in the Python environment
  • Work with Strings, List Methods and Exceptions in Python
  • Understand and utilise Object-Orientated Programming
  • Use List Comprehensions, Lambdas, Closures, and I/O Operations

This course is available to all adults over the age of 18 resident in the Republic of Ireland.

Does the course have prerequisites? 

In order to take this course, you should already have a solid grasp of the Python programming language. 

If you are just starting out in programming, our ICDL Coding Principles course may be a better choice. If you've got the basics of programming but need more experience in Python, then our IT Specialist in Python course would be a good choice.

Does this course have tutor support?

Yes, this course is supported by an online tutor who you will have access to during the course.

What is the exam like on this course?

The Certified Associate Python Programmer exam is conducted online. The exam consists of 40 single answer and multiple-choice questions. The pass mark for the exam is 70%. You cannot use study materials during the exam. Your results will be available to you on the day of the exam.

Do I need specific hardware or software?

You will require access to a PC or laptop running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (the most recent version is Windows 11).

You will be required to install a recent version of Python 3 on your machine. This comes packaged with a development tool called IDLE. IDLE can be used for the duration of your studies. This software is open source and free.
